Building early scientists through nature observation

Our Year 2 students have been observing the living things around our school and learning how to record what they notice.
As part of their follow-up work, they’ve been keeping an eye on our newly installed bird feeder—noting which birds visit, their behaviour, and any changes they see over time. It’s a simple activity that’s helping them build early scientific habits: looking closely, asking questions, and keeping organised notes.
A gentle and thoughtful introduction to observing nature.
